Quantitative and analytic skills used to understanding and solving problems, personal and social issues, faced in everyday life. Topics will include fractions, decimals vs. percentages, Excel spreadsheets vs. calculators, future and present value, interest rates, compounding, credit terms in personal finance, probabilities, statistics, weights, mean or expected value and the mathematics of finance. Introduction to statistical reasoning; methods of descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, histograms, elementary probability, and random variables and distributions. Rudimentary treatment of variance, standard deviation, sample vs. population statistics, correlation and covariance, and linear estimations.
